Martina Hingis and Sania Mirza win Wimbledon women’s doubles final

Martina Hingis won her first Wimbledon title since 1998 when she and partner Sania Mirza captured the women's double trophy on Saturday.

She is a Wimbledon champion once again, 17 years — exactly half her life — after the last time.

Hingis, 34, and 28-year-old India star Mirza came from a set down and 2-5 behind in the final set to beat Russian duo Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina 5-7, 7-6 (7/4), 7-5.

Hingis won the Wimbledon doubles with Helena Sukova in 1996 and Jana Novotna in 1998.


For Mirza, it was a maiden women's doubles title at a Grand Slam although she has won three mixed doubles at the majors.

Hingis, 34, was Wimbledon singles champion in 1997 and took the doubles with Helena Sukova in 1996 and Jana Novotna two years later.

Hingis and Mirza, who have three WTA doubles titles together at Indian Wells, Miami and Charleston, are through to their first Grand Slam doubles final together.

The Swiss star has has a 9-3 record in Grand Slam doubles finals -- she has four Australian Opens, two French Opens, two Wimbledons and a US Open to her name.
